Karmiel USA 2022
Welcome to all of our wonderful dancers! After 2 years of holding abbreviated virtual/hybrid dance camps (you can see the 2020/2021 videos on our Videos page), we are excited to finally return this year to our fully in-person weekend dance camp held at The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center (on a mountain top in southwest North Carolina)! We are eager to see everyone again in person (and see some new faces too), and hope that as many of you as possible will be able to come to The Mountain this year. We know that it will not be the same without Ruthy, but we also know that she wanted camp to go on, and we (the staff) will do our best to honor her wishes.
At "The Mountain"

Labor Day Weekend
Israeli Folk Dance Weekend
Come join us as we celebrate our 27th year and Israel’s 74th birthday! Enjoy three full days and three long nights at this beautiful, relaxing and rustic retreat near Highlands, NC in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with its incredible mountain views and natural surroundings.
Friday night all white attire Kabbalat Shabbat
Saturday night Havdalah atop Meditation Rock
Beginner sessions upon request
In addition to dance teaching sessions and dance parties lasting long into the night, in a wonderful dance hall called “the Tree House”, you can enjoy heated rooms, hike many trails, enjoy afternoon wine parties and take part in our traditional Kabbalat Shabbat and Havdalah services. You can feast on 3 fabulous meals a day and our legendary non-stop yummy snacks guaranteed to satisfy even the hungriest of dancers. Non-dancing family and friends (including children) are always welcome.
This year, and every year to come, we honor our beloved Ruthy Slann, the creator of this camp, its director for the last 27 years, and our inspiration. Ruthy, a native of Israel, avid dancer and veteran teacher, spent a lifetime sharing the joy of dance and love of Israel. She co-directed the Blue Star Fred Berk Israeli Dance Camp for the last several years of its existence, was the assistant course director for the annual Karmiel Summer Course for foreign teachers for 16 years and the driving force behind the Karmiel Tour of Israel from 1997-2000. Ruthy travelled in the U.S. and beyond to teach Israeli Folk Dance workshops for children and adults. She also led numerous tours of Israel with her sister and professional tour-guide, Ronit Nachman. As Ruthy used to warn us, her enthusiasm for dancing was dangerously contagious. We are privileged to carry on spreading it!

Our Covid Precautions
While we want to continue spreading Ruthy's love of dancing, we don't want to spread anything else. So these are the precautions we're taking.
In the dance hall, we will have windows open and fans going to help circulate the air. We will not be holding hands during dances, and we encourage frequent hand washing and sanitizing. Masks are not required anywhere (other than the dining hall), but you are welcome to wear one if it is necessary for your health. Snacks will be in individual portions.
We are encouraging all participants to limit exposure as much as they can. This includes strongly recommending that people should travel and room with the same people whenever possible. We are not requiring vaccinations to attend camp. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated people will be in attendance.
The camp requires masks in the dining hall while serving food, but not at your table after sitting down. Each of us also will need to sign a standard liability waiver before arrival (see link below) releasing The Mountain staff from any liability regarding the transmission of infection/illness. By registering for camp, you agree to release Karmiel USA staff as well.
If a person shows symptoms, he/she will be asked to isolate for the remainder of the camp. We are planning to have a limited number of test kits available, but we still cannot allow a person with contagious symptoms to continue participating in group activities. Someone will check on the infected person regularly and bring meals from the dining hall until the infected person is ready to depart.
We will follow the same rough schedule of events as we did for the Karmiel USA 2019 dance camp (last time it was held at The Mountain). If you have attended camp before, you will know what to expect. Our intention is to keep camp as close as possible to what it was like before.
The camp will begin with dinner on Friday and will conclude with lunch on Monday. (You may arrive any time on Friday, although rooms may not be available until the afternoon.)
To register for Karmiel USA 2022, please visit the link below to fill in the registration form and submit it. When you do you should receive a confirmation email within a few minutes. If not, please check your "Spam" folder. If you still can't find it, please reach out to the website administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org with your registration info so we can make sure you are registered.
Please note that this form is just for registering. You will still need to mail a check for your payment. If we do not receive your full payment by the deadline, we will unfortunately have to assume you are not coming. (The Mountain requires us to submit a final roster about 2 weeks before camp, so we will be closing registration a few days before that, to allow us enough time to organize and submit the paperwork.) See payment/timing details further below.
